Stop the presses! Amanda Ferguson wins! Laughs at record books!

Take a good long look at that picture folks, because that’s big news right there. Amanda Ferguson, what can you say about her that hasn’t been said already? How about now the youngest female in the Southeast to win a pavement sprint car race with a touring series? Not only did Amanda take the feature win holding off Keith Butler, the Gimmler brothers and Scotty Adema, but she won her heat race as well, making a clean sweep of the night.
Somehow I get the feeling that those of you in attendance last night will be saying some day while watching Amanda go in circles on television, “you know, I was there in Punta Gorda the night she took her first major pavement win. My Bobby Bucks weren’t good any more, but damn that girl could drive…”
This weekend’s sprint car races – 10.09.09

Things that go great together:
* Chocolate and peanut butter.
* Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard.
* Australian sprint car drivers and beer.
* Joey “The Ace” Aguilar and Orange Crush soda.
* Sprint cars and East Bay.
* Greg Hodnett and “Lethal” Lee Stauffer.
* Our Editor at Speed “The Hot Foot” Brian Penrose and FSCF.com Factory Driver Flyin’ Ryan Partin.
* Yuengling and buffalo wings.
And this Saturday night, you will have points #3, #5 and #7 wrapped up in one nice little package. That’s right, if you are so bold in theory you will see the FloridaSprintCarFans.com staff setting up shop right next to each other in the pits. If all goes to plan, we will be setting up the Penrose and Partin camp next to Paulie Milum’s rig and settling in for the evening.
File this under odd sprint car news.

If you were hoping to catch some wingless sprints at the home of Bobby Bucks, Charlotte County Motorsports Park, you can cross that one off your to do list.
Why?
Or if you are like our driver Flyin’ Ryan Partin who has raced in France…Pourqoi?
It would appear that the race has been cancelled due to “the many rainouts that have plagued the speedway.” When I first read that I thought, “even Bithlo Falls Speedway doesn’t call a race that early unless there is a hurricane coming.”
But then I read it again (I’m a little slow on the uptake sometimes) and then interpreted it to mean due to all of the rainouts, CCMP is still racing this weekend (weather permitting) but bumped the sprints in order to make up other class races due to bad weather.
If so, sucks for us sprint car fans. If you’re in that area of the state, mosey on over to Desoto Speedway and take in the TBARA race, before John Sarppraicone sells the damn place.
Which of course begs the question, if John’s dream of affordable housing for all comes true, what then of the Desoto Sprint Series, whoops – the TBARA? Could this work in the fans favor and see the TBARA back at New Smyrna and Bithlo Falls Speedway on a more regular basis? Maybe even, dare I say it, Lake City or Auburndale?
In totally unrelated news, if you’ve ever taken in a late model race at New Smyrna Speedway, please say a prayer for Rich Clouser, who is dealing with some scary medical issues at the moment.
