Archive for Ben Fritz

BREAKING NEWS! Stan Butler has decided to step down as TBARA president, effective immediately, thus relinquishing the TBARA throne to Buff Fritz, whom many of you know as the father of TBARA campaigner Ben Fritz. You might also know Buff Fritz from our go karting events and his generous handing out of “love taps” on cool down laps, but that’s neither here nor there.

When reached for comment regarding his resignation, Stan said, “This wasn’t a decision I took lightly and I wish the TBARA nothing but the best of luck for the rest of the season. I was a competitor with the club for a long time and I’m glad I got to help the club out when the previous president had to step down due to work-related issues. Right now I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of my sprint car.”

We here at FloridaSprintCarFans.com wish Stan Butler nothing but the best of luck and the same goes for Buff Fritz as incoming president. Stan stepped up to the plate to help the TBARA in what can easily be described as some of the most tumultuous years the club has seen, particularly with the track alliance issues from earlier this year. We can also vouch for Stan’s ability to keep a calm head and be a leader as we witnessed first hand at New Smyrna this year when it appeared the TBARA might not race as scheduled, but Stan kept everything inline, the races went off and everyone got paid.

And now we get to ask Sonny Hartley what he makes of all of this tomorrow night as we record our next podcast!

If you feel the need to comment, make it positive and/or constructive as we’re not interested in misinformed opinions  or bashing on this topic.

The KJ Motorsports Driver Development Program is under way!

We at FSCF.com would like to extend congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Keith “I’m No One’s” Butler for welcoming daughter Kenzie into the world this past weekend. Word on the streets is that mom and daughter are doing just fine.

Congrats also to the grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Stan Butler and Mr. and Mrs. Don Rehm. With bloodlines like that we can only assume that Kenzie will grow up and dominate Florida sprint car racing some day.

On to some rumor mongering with some facts thrown in just for fun…

Ocala Speedway.

We keep hearing it’s for sale…then it’s for lease…then it’s sold…then it’s going back to pavement…

Well Mike Peters confirmed the track is not sold and is certainly not going back to pavement. That last part is certainly believable because I can remember back in the day being depressed at the empty stands, particularly for the NA$CAR All Pro Series (I think it may have been called the Kodak Southeast Series or something dumb like that) back when David Reutimann competed in that series, and probably should have won that night, but alas I digress.

I snapped this picture back in 2006 when Ocala Speedway was still paved.

So when one speaks of Ocala Speedway and Mike Peters we’ve learned that one must also speak of Ben Fritz. So what’s new and exciting with Ben Fritz? Well, add his name to the list of drivers heading out to the dirt for 2011, as he’s lined himself up a ride in a Schnee chassis, when he’s not running TBARA.

Also in the rumor department these days is Volusia Speedway Park. These would pretty much include the same list mentioned above for Ocala Speedway. What we do know at VSP is that there have been some layoffs in key areas and one higher-up bolted last week. We’ve long heard that after SpeedWeeks VSP may reduce their number of shows and focus on the touring series shows, but that’s pure speculation (mixed in with a few things we’ve heard) on our part.

Either way, get your sorry butts out to Ocala Speedway and Volusia Speedway park for SpeedWeeks!

"The Commando" Brian Gingras is in the TBARA house this weekend.

Last time out at the Central Florida Wingless Sprints race at Citrus County one of our decals was spotted in the wild on the car of “The Commando” Brian Gingras. We’d like to think it helped him come through the pack (and also contributed to our webmaster’s son yelling “not nice!” at Dave Slawiak after they got together early on in the race) but more importantly this weekend “The Commando” is back for some TBARA action.

If you venture out to see the TBARA this weekend at Orlando Speed World or New Smyrna Speedway, you will also see the welcome return of the Alvis family as both Big Jimmy and Lil’ Jimmy Alvis, or Jimmy Sr. and Jimmy Jr. if you like, to TBARA competition.

Want more? Keith “I’m No One’s” Butler will also be in the house with a big honkin’ motor under the hood, so definitely keep your eye on him.

More you say? Fine, Hustlin’ Steve Heisler will be piloting the R&D car owned by His Holiness Dave Steele, who is also threatening to come out and run the #91 this weekend as well.

Want someone to fly in from Indiana to run this weekend? Got that too, as Travelin’ Troy DeCaire is on his way to pilot the George Rudolph #68 this weekend.

Want someone to keep Troy honest in the Rudolph camp? Throw in the hottest wingless driver in the state this year “The Smooth Operator” Mickey Kempgens in the Rudolph Hurricane while Travelin’ Troy pilots the Diablo.

Throw all of this on top of a charging Dude Teate who is gunning full force at Shane Butler in the race to win the TBARA championship. You can also throw a blanket over the guys behind them (Ben Fritz, Larry Brazil, Jr., Bo Hartley) who are in a dogfight to settle the rest of the top five.

If those cars are a tad too big for you, the FMARA will be making a rare appearance outside of the greater Punta Gorda area and you can catch them at Citrus County. We don’t need to go into great detail about our love affair with Citrus County, but if you’re in the area, check the TQs out.

In lieu of video, here’s another link (right click and save if you want to download it and listen to it on your way to the races) to the brand new podcast featuring TBARA driver Ben Fritz.

Hit play and enjoy!
