CROWD GRADE: C. Very sparse, but enthusiastic of what was there.
NUMBER OF SPRINT CARS: 13
WHO WON: Bruce Durden
FSCF.COM DRIVER OF THE RACE: Mark Ruel Jr. stayed out of trouble and was able to finish the feature with a collapsed front nose wing to finish second.
SERIES GRADE: B-
TRACK GRADE: F. It was a sand pit, not a racetrack. Advertised starting time was 8pm and the driver’s meeting didn’t start until 8pm.
REST OF THE RACING GRADE: C. Sparse car counts.
OTHER NOTES: I know the FSCA won’t say anything negative about Putnam because it has become their home track, but good grief this track is like a high school senior economics class project gone wrong. Matt Kurtz had to tag the tail after a first lap incedent where he had to change a flat left rear tire. Kurtz charged up to fourth. The caution flew later in the feature when Gene Machuga spun coming out of turn four. Under the caution The X Man Tommy Denton had a right front going down. As the feature restarted Denton sailed into one, the car got sideways under the sandy conditions; as he corrected Otto Scrape & Matt Kurtz tried to dive under Denton and spun to miss Denton. The feature had pretty good action considering the poor track conditions…At one time a few years ago I thought the FSCA was going to be the way to go with dirt sprint car racing in Florida. Right now it is in a holding pattern. I hope once the economy recovers this class will grow again.
