SpeedWeeks is upon us and Happy Birthday to our Editor at Speed.
Posted by: | Comments
Gone are the days of our longing to see Natalie “Speed” Sather roll into Volusia Speedway Park, Kenny Woodruff in tow, time quick, fall off the pace in the heat and then we would marvel about how unbelievably cute she was. While she has moved on to pavement late models, she is dating Cody Darrah, so she’s still on the fringe of sprint car racing.
We’re still kicking ourselves for not buying Natalie Sather t-shirts that last time at VSP…or Erin Crocker t-shirts from before she became Ray Evernham’s plaything.
Regardless, it’s the birthday of our Editor at Speed “The Hot Foot” Brian Penrose and it is annual tradition to break out the Natalie Sather photo.
On to the racing this weekend!
The TQs are back in action to kick of SpeedWeeks as they take to the track where they are found more often than not – Punta Gorda Speedway. Speaking of Punta Gorda Speedway, look at this video from two weeks ago.
Look at how packed the stands are! I would highly suggest some of the promoters of other pavement tracks around here truck themselves down to Punta Gorda and talk to the management and fans because that place has been packing them in like sardines.
Will Ted Durfee run roughshod over the competition? Will a Gimmler find victory lane? Will the ageless wonder Jack Duffy find his way back to victory lane?
Also, start planning your trip to Bubba Raceway Park for USAC action now as Wednesday is practice and racing gets underway on Thursday and by all rights the racing should be awesome and the stands should be packed.
The return of USAC to Florida always reminds of the time Alex Wright returned to World Championship Wrestling…
Just remember, no one tells Alex Wright what to do and when to do.
We would be remiss in not posting a clip of Alex Wright versus Jean Paul Levesque, who you better know as Hunter Hearst Helmsley, or Stephanie McMahon’s husband.
Now don’t just go thinking that WWE Superstars just owned Alex Wright, because Stunning Steve Austin, or Stone Cold Steve Austin if you like, knows what it’s like to feel the sting of Alex Wright.
Now of course no conversation regarding Alex Wright is complete without discussing one of the greatest tag teams of all time – The Dancing Fools.
Tampa, Florida knows how to get up and dance, people.

It’s that time of year again wherein sprint car fans lose their minds (and cash) as almost every major player in the game descends upon Florida for SpeedWeeks.
As is tradition around here, we’ve once again thrown together our guide to SpeedWeeks that includes:
- All of the races in one enormous list.
- All of the races broken out by week.
- All of the track information for tracks hosting sprint cars.
- Todd and Brian’s tips for race chasing.
- Our Factory Driver Flyin’ Ryan Partin’s tips for what to do after the races. See our last PSA as a companion to this…
- What else to do during the day when you are milling about.
- Where to eat and drink.
- And more!
- Well maybe not more, but that sounds cool.
It’s in a handy dandy PDF format so you will need Adobe Reader to download and print it out. Click here to download our guide and if you need Adobe Reader, click here. You can also click on the pretty picture of the guide to download it.
