- 360 Sprints
Not too shabby, eh? Most recently you can find Mr. Durden tearing it up in the Top Gun Sprint Series and also the Florida Sprint Car Association. If you pull your car into Putnam County Speedway, you better be prepared to deal with the skills of Mr. Durden.

Without further ado, it is with great honor we present to you fine ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Bruce “If There Is A Race on Water or Land, I’m Your Man” Durden.
How long have you been racing? I started circle track racing back in 1983 in Late Models.
Who got you started in sprint car racing? It actually happened by accident – I saw Dude Teate with a TQ Midget, which then lead me to Mini- Sprints in 1990. After that I then went 360 racing with the TBARA when it was Dirt/Pavement and with Don Rehm at the helm, in 1993.
Sprint Cars, Moto-Cross, Sand Drags, Mud Bogs, Off Shore Powerboats, Drag Boats, Dirt Late Models, MiniSprints…seriously, what haven’t you raced? I really want to run a midget, a 410 sprint car, and a dirt modified. But I’m starting to think I am getting too old for these to be realistic goals any more.
What is your favorite track to race at? I like to race the Bullrings. I wish we had a 1/4 mile wide clay track with a cushion. My favorite racetrack in Florida was Okeechobee. Now I would say it is between Putnam County and North Florida (Lake City).
Pavement or dirt? Dirt, but I did race on pavement one time and really had a blast with it.

How is Ashlynn progressing as a sprint car driver? I am really very proud of her. She is real smooth and taking her time. She has no racing experience, so it is quite a bit to learn, but I’m very happy with how she is coming along.
What is your favorite restaurant to get some buffalo wings? That’s easy – Hooters! It’s practically my satellite office…
You’ve been around the block – if you could change one thing about sprint car racing in Florida, what would it be? First and foremost the one thing that needs to change would be PROMOTION! Another is to have all of us sprint car drivers to run under one set of rules and club or association. I like the affordability of the steel wet sump motors, and it is too late now, but for the same money we could have gone with 410 cubic inch engines and better heads. Then we would have more horsepower, and the promoters wouldn’t have this ego problem of not liking to call them limiteds.
Have you ever seen snow? Oh yes – I love to snow ski.
Let’s say I live in the Jacksonville area and need a survey done, who should I call? That’s an easy one – Durden Surveying & Mapping. We work all over the state and you can reach us at (904) 724-5588 and you can visit us online at www.durdensurveying.com.
So there you have it folks, some great insights from a great driver that has been around the block. We here at FSCF.com wish some promoters would take a look at what Mr. Durden has to say, because we are in complete agreement with his take on what needs to be fixed in sprint car racing here in this state we call home.
We also want to thank Bruce for taking time out of his busy schedule to play our little game. It’s the lack of promotion for drivers like Bruce (who every smart sprint car fan in Florida should know about anyway) that made us decide to do this website.
