10 Questions with Billy Boyd!

Posted by: | Comments (0)

He’s been easy to spot this past year over at East Bay with his Monster energy drink livery all about his sprint car, we roll out 10 Questions for the man who doesn’t mind being on the receiving end of a taser gun every now and then, he’s the one and only Billy Boyd!

How would you assess your overall 2010 sprint car season, using the school grading system? Overall, for the 2010 season I would have to give ourselves about a B.

How did you get your start in racing? Well my dad ran Super Six and Late Models for 39 years and he’s still racing today, so it’s only natural for me to follow in his footsteps. So I got started at the age 13 and here I am today, going as hard as I can at 39 and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon.

What do you think was your best race of 2010 and why? I would have to say when I outran Gene Lasker in a heat race at East Bay and yes, that was the night we both were banging on each other on the pace lap and I finished 2nd in the feature that night. Definitely my best race!

What was the biggest difference in moving up to a sprint car from a modified? Traction? Power? Definitely the power because the weight to horsepower ratio is a really a big difference. Sprint Cars are really lighter than a modified, so you can drive flat out with no fear. In the modifieds you have to drive with the gas and the brake.

Have you ever been tasered? Yes..it’s better than a back massage, how about that? And you guys all thought Gene Lasker was the crazy one at East Bay! I got one up on him there. Top that!

How did you come to painting your car like a giant Monster energy drink ad? Sponsor and a little bit of money too!

What do you like to do when you are not racing? I like to go out and spend time on the town with my wife.

In 1898 national attention focused on Florida, as the Spanish-American War began. What port city served as the primary staging area for U.S. troops bound for the war in Cuba? That’s easy, the home of “The Clay by The Bay” – Tampa!

Where is your favorite place to have some buffalo wings, drink some beer and talk about sprint cars? I’m like you guys – Hooters.

What does 2011 hold for you? Will you be chasing the Top Gun Sprint Series championship? We’re going to try to have as good of a year as we had 2010. We’re going to try and run some Top Gun Sprint Series shows but most likely not all of them. Besides, somebody has to hang around the bay to keep Tim George and Danny Martin Jr. straight.
