This weekend’s sprint car races – 08.17.12.

This weekend’s sprint car activities all center around the greater Ocala area and such are the events that if you are so bold you can actually take in both of them for one entire day of nothing but sprint car action.

First up is the FMSA, which is holding a “day of fun” at Marion County Speedway. As you may recall previously, the Florida Mini Sprint Association has taken Skye Hall under their wing and is attempting to raise the money that is needed to secure a guardian dog for her in order that she may continue her education and someday continue on with a career path that will enable her to be a self-sufficient adult.

To that end, at high noon festivities of mini sprint racing, cook outs, family fun and all kinds of neat stuff get under way at high noon and go on until roundabout dinner time. So when you are done supporting a good cause and getting up close and personal with some mini sprints, you can literally head down the street for the Top Gun Sprint Series at Bubba Raceway Park!

If you’ve not been paying attention to the Top Gun Sprint Series championship, you must have rocks in your head because the points battle is tighter than Joan Rivers’ face.

No good?

Tighter than Joan of Arc?

Or how about for you XXX Summer Olympics fans – the points battle is tighter than Lolo Jones! The irony there is that a virgin was competing in the XXX Summer Olympics. She should have been disqualified on premise alone.

But alas, I digress.

The race for the top spot in the point standings continues to be very tight; Matt Kurtz leads Mark Ruel Jr. by four points and our Factory Driver Flyin’ Ryan Partin is only twenty points out.

Look for last time’s almost winner OTG Tyler Godwin will be out to try and redeem himself after coming up lite at the scales. AJ Maddox, Tony Agin, Andrew Griffin, Rich Alexander, Danny Martin Jr., Collin Cabre, Robbie Smith, Shawn Murray, Tim and Brandon Grubaugh, Brandon Lineberger, Stephen Darvalics, Kerry Gilbert, David Slawiak, Shane Kreidler and Phillip Pettay will all be trying to move up in the points.

There you have it – an action packed Saturday, all within a few miles of each other. It doesn’t get any better than that.

And here is some most excellent video from Chase Cabre, he the brother of Haulin’ Collin and son of Lightning Lou Perez. Of note is the early interview footage of our Factory Driver and then of course the actual Top Gun racing action from Bubba Raceway Park on August 4.

Enjoy.
