It’s Showtime! Well, almost…

Well look at that, sprint cars testing at Showtime Speedway! Read on… Photo by Gary Johnson.

Much anticipation has been made of Showtime Speedway (formerly Sunshine Speedway) rising from the ashes like a mighty Phoenix under the helm of local racer turned promoter Robert Yoho. Over the weeks a few different types of vehicles have rolled out for testing and this week a few sprint cars rolled out on to the track.

Our crack spy photograhper Gary “Walk Quietly But Carry A Big” Johnson made his way on to the scene and snapped a few pictures of defending TBARA champion Johnny Gilbertson and Jimmy Alvis Sr. who were on hand to test.

While he was out testing on used tires, Johnny told us the track is awesome to drive around and the surface was nice and smooth, fast and clean and that the electricity in the air was so thick, you could cut it with a knife. Johnny is very much looking forward to Sunshine Speedway opening its doors and getting the sprint cars out there.

While no official times were released, we’ve heard lap times ranging from 12.9 to 13.5 so somewhere in the middle is probably alright. Keeping in mind that they were on used tires and just getting a handle on things, the racing should be fantastic when Showtime Speedway opens back up.

Finally – good news! :)
