Testing at Citrus County and What to Do This Weekend.

By

His Holiness Dave Steele is always happy to stop and pose for his adoring public during test sessions.

There was an open test session last night at Citrus County Speedway for one and all and a few sprint car teams rolled into Inverness to shake down their stuff. Some of our staff was also deployed for said event. If you take a close look at that object that His Holiness is standing next to, it might make you start to think about just what he is up to these days and where we might be seeing him next…

Hmmm...there's a lot going on in this picture.

From left to right you’ve got His Holiness Dave Steele in his wingless car, “The Smooth Operator” Mickey Kempgens in the George Rudolph #68 and the Butler Motorsports entry. But who is in the Butler Motorsports car? Occasional staff reporter Josh Wichers reports that “The Legend” Stan Butler was out there in the #81 shaking it down. Speculate as you see fit…

Intrigued by that wingless car and you want a closer look? Here you go.

His Holiness Dave Steele strapping in for some testing.

And if you look real close you will see our Editor at Speed “The Hot Foot” Brian Penrose in the background chatting up Hustlin’ Steve Heisler’s lovely wife Alison.

On to this weekend!

If you like big cars, you may want to load up and head to Georgia. And guess what, the little cars will be there too!

If you’ve got the wherewithall, this is a right smart double bill of the FMSA and OSCA (FSCA to the laypeople) at Waycross Speedway in…Waycross, Georgia. Check their website for the $15 per carload general admission flyer you have to print out, which is a steal no matter how you slice it. Hell, there are tracks here in Florida charging $15 a head to get in for a local show…

But alas we digress, because here is why this is a neato torpedo double header:

  • Mark Ruel Jr. proved that Titanium Tommy Denton could be toppled, but can “Mark Ruelz Bitches!” do it again?
  • Will Rich Pratt show and continue his hot streak as of late, no matter where he runs?
  • Can Brett O’Donnell be toppled from the top of the FMSA points?
  • Will Chris Pacetti continue his hot streak and plunk himself down in victory lane again?
  • Will Rhea Lynn Moss break through with the win we all know is right around the corner?

And don’t forget if you’re nowhere near the Florida/Georgia border, then Punta Gorda Speedway is your place for some small car action as the TQs will be in action once again.

All of this intermingling of big and small cars recalls a time when big and small wrestlers squared off in the same ring together. For those of you old school Florida wrestling fans, hopefully you recognize Jimmy Jack Funk as the one and only Jesse Barr.

Note how cool Scott McGhee is with his Duran Duran jacket…man alive does that still picture look like Scott McGhee is getting to third base with Jesse Barr…
