All is quiet on the sprint car racing front here in Florida…

By

July sure is a lonely month for sprint cars. We were all ready to tell you to load up your car and cross over into Georgia to take in Otto’s Sprint Car Association, but the track had other plans and now there is no race.

That makes two straight weekends of no sprint car racing here in Florida.

We’ve got a few 10 Questions out there circulating with some drivers, so hopefully we’ll have some new ones up shortly. If you’re a driver reading this, just send us an e-mail and we’ll hook you up. We want to profile all drivers – pavement, dirt, big car, small car.

Also, if you’ve listened to our last podcast, we applaud your ability to sit still that long. Rest assured, we’re going to change our format a bit to keep them shorter going forward. 4o minutes will be our new maximum length on podcasts, no matter what.

As Gary “Walk Quietly But Carry A Big” Johnson pointed out, we were remiss in not noting the passing of Kenny Irwin on July 7, 2000. I was a fan of Kenny’s USAC exploits and got to meet him when he raced out at the USAC show at Disney. If you would like to help honor Kenny, please click here to learn more about his Dare to Dream Camp.

One other thing we forgot to note last month was the passing of Terry Hannagan, brother of Randy. If you ever noticed the THR on the hood, that was for Terry Hannagan Racing. Terry had a rough go of things after an unfortunate incident confined him to a wheelchair, but that didn’t keep him from supporting his brother Randy. Unfortunately Randy has now lost his mother, father and brother in the last 18 months. If you’re the church going kind, please spare a thought for the Hannagan family.

Rest in peace Terry, you were a model of never giving up.
