Some notes from this past weekend’s sprint car races.
ByAnyone that has spent any time around me knows that I have a special place in my heart for that guy in that photo right there, and friend of the website Gary “Walk Quietly But Carry A Big” Johnson snapped that righteous picture right there of the living legend himself, “The Buzzbomb” Buzzie Reutimann. You might also know his brother Wayne and Wayne’s son Pookie (don’t even get us started on how screwed up things are that Pookie isn’t driving a pavement sprinter…) and quite possibly his son David.
Anywho, on to the sprints!
Car count was a tad down at East Bay, but it was a quality field nonetheless. Anytime you see “The Hammer” Danny Martin Jr. in the pits these days in the Shaw #24, you would be wise to put your money on him. And if you did, you would have pocketed some nice coin as win he did. Travis Bliemeister started on the point and held the early lead, but once “The Hammer” worked his way up front it was game over. Martin was followed across the stripe by Bleimesiter, Billy Boyd, Tim George and Rich Pratt.
For those of you not in the know on Mr. Pratt, he used to race both dirt and pavement late models, especially at Ocala. We believe this is Rich’s best finish in a sprint car, so kudos Rich!
In the battle of the ladies, Christine Auld bested Jeanette Burnett, with Christine coming home 13th and Jeanette coming home 15th.
Noticeably absent was “Mean” Gene Lasker. For those of you fond of BTLS, you might have heard Gene on the radio late last week. From all of us here at FSCF.com we hope you get your ship pointed in the right direction and we look forward to seeing you back at the track.
We deployed Josh “Who Cares About Soccer, Where Is The Nearest Roller Derby?” Wichers to Lake City, but it was all for naught as the rain moved in and screwed the whole thing up. The tragedy was there were a lot of cars there, though the real tragedy was that the #68 was not one of them. The race has been rescheduled for October 30, 2010.
The good news is that the CFWS is looking to add some more races and hopefully the “CF” in the name will be a factor and maybe we can see them at Orlando Speedworld and New Smyrna Speedway? That would be nice.
And hey, Joey “The Ace” Aguilar was there to go racing with Shane Miller Motorsports. We guess they caught enough fish to last a while…
Down at the former home of Bobby Bucks, Punta Gorda Speedway, Mike Belusar took home the TQ victory over Ted Durfee, who was followed across the stripe by the ageless wonder Jack Duffy.
Ready for some fun? See this car below? Know what it has to do with the guy up top?
That would be the coupe that Jack Duffy drove in 1974. Look familiar to you old timers? It should, it was the #00 coupe that Jack bought from Buzzie Reutimann. Here is the original, in case you have rocks in your head.
Anywho, back to the sprint cars!
That guy Gary we mentioned previously, he snapped the rest of these gems for us. Thanks Gary!
