This weekend’s sprint car races – 06.18.10

By

If you’re reading this now (Friday) and have nothing to do, because fraternizing with general society is frowned upon, why not pack up the car and cross the border into Georgia for Otto’s Sprint Car Association.

Can anyone stop Tommy Denton? Pack up your friends and cross over the border to the D-shaped clay oval and find out for yourselves. Pack a tent, they even have camping at the track.

The pavement world (our world is only the state just south of Georgia and just above Cuba) is all abuzz with this Saturday’s TBARA race at Desoto Speedway.

The woeful car counts will get a distinct shot in the arm as KJ Motorsports will pull into the pits with two cars, one for Keith “I’m No One’s” Butler and also teenage sensation Amanda Ferguson.

In addition we would also like to point out that Bryan Riddle will be in the house with his blue and white Case Contracting/Wesmar Engines ride. Bryan is the grandson of legendary (and new Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee) driver Frank Riddle. So if you get a chance, stop by and congratulate him as he is rightfully proud of his grandfather’s inclusion.

We also know Travelin’ Troy DeCaire has flown in for the show, and Hustlin’ Steve Heisler is in the #81, so look for the TBARA car count to inch closer back to nearing the 20 car area, in theory. Update, looks like Troy is staying up in Indiana and will be racing in Plymouth tonight due to weather concerns in the Bradenton area.

On the dirt side of things, it’s another double header up in Lake City as the Top Gun Sprint Series pulls into town with the FMSA in tow. That’s right, for the price of one ticket, you get both our Factory Driver Flyin’ Ryan Partin and also our Editor at Speed “The Hot Foot” Brian Penrose. And quite a few of the OSCA guys should tow in, including Mark Ruel Jr. who we profiled just yesterday. As always, ladies we ask that you please refrain from throwing your bras on the track when our Editor at Speed goes out for hot laps. It’s just dangerous for all involved. Just form a neat and orderly line at the Penrose Racing hauler after the FMSA feature has concluded.

We also hear Sport Allen is heading up past our border to run the USCS event.

Those are lots of good options. We say if you’re in the upper part of the state, why not pull the double and take in OSCA tonight and TGSS/FMSA tomorrow.

You might even see a few surprises, like say, one of the few times S.D. “Special Delivery” Jones actually won a match.

And as an added bonus that always prompts me to wonder why we don’t have wingless dirt sprint car racing in this state, enjoy this recent USAC clip.
