USAC at East Bay is here! And some TBARA notes too.

Levi Jones didn't seem to mind Gary getting way too close to his car.

USAC is here! All hail East Bay! Whoo hoo!

Gary “Walk Softly and Carry a Big” Johnson was in the house at East Bay last night and snapped some photos for us, as you will see below. Gary reports that USAC had 32 cars, took three tries to get the start right.  Ricky Williams and Shane Hmiel were on the front row. First Williams spun and got clobbered, then on the second try Hmiel spun and recovered. This changed the front row. The #71 of Damien Gardener ran away with it, but there was a good battle between  Clausen and Short, and they finished that way. Levi Jones had a good run through the field.

Thanks to Gary and also “The Flying Brunette” Jeanette Burnett for providing updates from the track. A spotting of His Holiness Dave Steele sitting in the stands cannot be confirmed or denied at this point.

Over at New Smyrna Travelin’ Troy DeCaire picked up the checkers and inched closer to taking home that nice big pretty trophy the TBARA is offering up for the driver with the most SpeedWeeks points.

Random TBARA ramblings:

  • Travelin’ Troy once again put the outside groove to work like nobody’s business to carve his way through the field.
  • Give a shout out once again to “The Commando” Brian Gingras for posting another strong run. Gingras is looking like he is going to be a force to be reckoned with this year.
  • Joey “The Ace” Aguilar continues to put the Shane Miller Motorsports machinery at the front of the field.
  • Canadian Ryan Litt continues to make the most of his Snowbird activities and running in the top five almost every night.
  • Hustlin’ Steve Heisler got outhustled by his engine that didn’t want to cooperate last night.
  • Australian Craig Skene had his New Smyrna debut ended early in the #80 car as mechanical woes brought him pitside.
  • Wendy Mathis drove the WMR back up #90 car last night, coming home 11th.

2/3 of the FSCF.com staff is planning on heading over to Tampa early today for the USAC show, weather permitting…
