Notes and results from this weekend’s sprint car activities.

Down in Punta Gorda, the CFSS points battle raged on as the wingless sprinters descended once again on the former home of Bobby Bucks, CCMP. 21 cars rolled in through the back gate to do battle over three heat races and a 30 lap feature.

Heat wins went to Amanda Ferguson (more on her in a minute) and points battle adversaries Keith “I’m No One’s” Butler and Mark Gimmler. For the feature, third place starter Steven Bradley charged forward to take the lead, but sadly one of the early cautions brought about the retirement of our resident safety chief Scotty Adema who pulled off with a broken shock. On the ensuing restart there was a big shamozzle and the caution flew when it looked like “Double G” Gary Gimmler was going to catch some air. He didn’t, but sadly had to go to the rear as the source of the caution. Late in the going David Slawiak had to pull off with mechanical issues after being in the hunt all night, but when it was all said and done, Steven Bradley came home the winner. Following Bradley across the line was Keith Butler, Amanda Ferguson, “Double G” Gary Gimmler and brother Mark.

And our teenage friend Amanda? Don’t tell her family physician, who ordered Amanda to bedrest with penicillin, but she was out there racing with a 102 fever. She started third in her heat and won that, then picked up a nice third in the feature – further eating into the points of Scotty Adema. She’s a tough cookie that Amanda.

Up the road at “The Clay by the Bay,” the Gene Lasker/Tim George lovefest rolled on. Thankfully, friend of the website Gary “Walk Quietly and Carry a Big” Johnson was on hand for the festivities and passed on some notes.

* Gene Lasker took the heat win over Paulie Milum.

* In the other heat, Tim George took the checkers over Clyde Poole.

* For the feature, Lasker jumped out to a quick lead but then promptly began falling back through the pack, eventually pulling off on lap six.

* Paulie Milum then ran away with it, but there was a spirited battle on back, with Rocky Sullivan coming home second, Jeff Van Dusen (driving from the back) third and Tim George fourth.

How about those TBARA results for Concord, eh? To look at the North South Shootout website, you wouldn’t even know they were there. Nice big glorious race reviews for the modifieds and super late models…but a mention of the TBARA? Nope.

Anyway – His Holiness Dave Steele won. Travelin’ Troy DeCaire came home second.

Nonetheless, we would like to congratulate Jeff Fultz on winning the super late model portion of the card at Concord. His son was tragically killed days earlier and Jeff raced in his son’s memory and picked up the win. I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff a few years ago and I was very saddened to hear of the untimely passing of his son. We extend our condolences to the Fultz family during this time.
